About Us
The Urban League of Greater Atlanta Young Professionals (ULGA-YP) is comprised of young professionals across metro Atlanta who are dedicated to serving their local communities through social and community activism.
HISTORY
In the 1980’s and 90’s, several Urban League affiliates recognized the need to prepare the new generation to assume leadership of the civil rights movement. They recruited African American men and women in their 20’s and 30’s and invited them to take active leadership roles in local Urban League programs and activities.
Young Professionals auxiliary groups began to operate under the guidance of affiliates in Detroit, MI (“The Blue Monday Network”), Chicago, IL (“The Metropolitan Board”), Philadelphia, PA (“Philadelphia Urban League Young Professionals”), and Washington, DC (“Thursday Network”). It was at the National Urban League Annual Conference in July 1999 in Houston, Texas that the creation of the new National Urban League Young Professionals was announced. Currently, there are more than 65 Urban League Young Professionals chapters across the United States with over 4,000 young professionals committed to engaging communities in the National Urban League Movement by supporting their local Urban League affiliates through volunteerism, philanthropy and membership development.
To support the Atlanta affiliate, in 2001, the Atlanta Urban League Young Professionals, was established. The Auxiliary’s name was later changed to the Urban League of Greater Atlanta Young Professionals. The founders of ULGAYP are: Angelita Bush, April Crosse, Sabine Desamour, Ebony Howell, Asha Jackson, Renee Morrow,Thomas Morse, Neil Newman, Gary Richey, Tameka Wren, and Aba Yankah.
OUR MISSION
The mission of the Urban League of Greater Atlanta Young Professionals is to support the National Urban League movement through volunteerism, philanthropy, and membership development. We accomplish this by supporting our local affiliate, The Urban League of Greater Atlanta, providing a forum for the development of young professionals and engagement of Atlanta’s youth.

ULGA-YP Recognition!
ULGA-YP has been recognized as the Southern Regional Chapter of Excellence by the National Urban League Young Professionals. The award is bestowed by a nationwide panel of young professionals and rewards achievement in membership and retention, programming and overall attention to community needs.
